Papal Nuncio Charles Brown Presided Over the Mass for Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, La Limpia

The Santuario Arquidiocesano de Nuestra Señora del Carmen, La Limpia celebrated its 51st feast in honor of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel last July 16, with the theme “Dungan sa Pagpanaw para sa Sinodohanong Simbahan, Ubos sa Manto ni Maria atong Inahan”

The Pontifical Mass was presided over by The Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, Most Rev. Charles Brown.

Among those present in the Pontifical Mass were Cebu Archbishop Most Rev. Jose Palma, Auxiliary Bishop Midyphil Billones, Auxiliary Bishop-Elect Ruben Labajo, the Order of Augustinian Recollects Community, and other visiting priests.

In his homily, the Papal Nuncio reminded the faithful on the importance of the brown scapular. He shared, “Mary clothed Jesus so that Jesus can clothe us in his glory, in his grace… If we put this scapular on, we follow the humility of Mary, we are clothed with Christ, we are protected by Christ”

Before the final blessing, the Papal Nuncio and Archbishop Jose Palma also unveiled the Quadricentennial Logo, marking 400 years of Carmel devotion in Visayas and Mindanao.

Devotees then flocked to the altar to receive the blessed brown scapulars distributed after the mass.

The Papal Nuncio also left a message to the Cebuano faithful: “I want to encourage you to deepen your faith, continue that faith, and spread that faith, not only in the Philippines but all over the world.”

He last visited the Archdiocesan Shrine last April 24, during the closing rites of 500 years of Christianity (YOC) celebration in Cebu. Last April 29, this parish was elevated into an archdiocesan shrine. // Jeza Marie Marturillas
